We’re off!!

We’ve successfully complete our first leg!           Boston to New York 😂.  Departing for               Amsterdam in in hour.  

So far I’ve misplaced a money envelope and losta pair of sunglasses.  Pray for me.  Doesn’t bodewell for the next 20 days.  

We have 7 checked bags, 5 rolly bags and 5      backpacks.  That’s light for a Prussian Calvary   Unit but a whole lotta stuff for us.  We’re living   out of the rolly bags for the whole trip and the   big ones are loaded with treats.  600+ solar         lights, at least 2000 fire starters and more than  100 pairs of sunglasses for the blind school. (I’ll explain later).  

We’ll be in Amsterdam till Sunday and then headto Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where we start our   big adventure and reunite with friends.

Idodi Secondary

On the way to Ruaha NP Sam took us to his Secondary School in the town of Idodi right outside of the National Park.  Idodi is a very well known secondary school in this area as it draws students from all over Tanzania.  The teachers and students are very dedicated and their test scores on the 4 Compulsory Form exams show it.  Kids travel miles to attend this particular school.  The headmaster told us instruction goes on most nights until 10 pm.  There are 1000+ students here, boys and girls with about 100+ boarders.  If you followed our blog last year you know there was a terrible fire here when Sam was young.  Because of Sam's connection with the school and the fire caused by late night studying by candle light, we shipped over 100 Luci Solar powered lights to this school before we came.  The pictures are mostly the students meeting the kids and thanking us for the solar lights. At Sam's Home This is the home of our driver Sam.  He was kind enough to invite us in to meet his mom and his niece.  She is giving us all a traditional greeting from Juniors to Elders right before she tells us her name.

Malangali Blind School

Susi Delivering Supplies to the Malangali Blind School So we finally reached one of the places we hoped to help on this trip.  The Malanghali Blind School was originally run by the Diocese of Sumbawanga, but now is managed by the government.  It has 108 students, most of them board here and all have special needs.  The majority are blind, or have degenerative conditions that will make them blind, eventually.  About 40 of the students are Albino, a population particularly hard-pressed in Tanzania as they suffer from blindness, skin conditions, and are horribly maltreated by the society in general.  Albinos will never have regular jobs nor any real life prospects.  Most will die young and are often outcasts from their families.  Regardless, the Malangali Blind School is a refuge for them and others in need.  The government trains the children to read and write in Braille and prepares them with a Primary education.  When we were there we...
